About Primary Tree Surgeons
Primary Tree Surgeons provide tree surgery services and arboricultural advice throughout Hampshire and the South of England. We are based in Basingstoke.
The person you will be dealing with
Andrew Jones has been in the tree business since 1986. He was born in Basingstoke and trained at Merrist Wood College in Guildford, and he still quotes the work, runs the jobs and answers the phone.
That matters more than it sounds. When you ring, you are talking to the person who will decide what your tree needs — not a call centre passing a message to a crew.
In the last ten years he has trained developing groundsmen and tree surgeons from various backgrounds, and offered work experience placements to students from Basingstoke schools.

Trained, and kept trained
Our current team are all local to North Hampshire. We employ lead climbers, trainee arborists, apprentices and experienced groundsmen, trained at Sparsholt and Merrist Wood colleges or by us in partnership with a local accredited training provider.
Every site has a trained First Aider on it, and all equipment is inspected under PUWER and LOLER regulations. Work is carried out in line with BS 3998 and the European Tree Pruning Guide — the recognised standards for tree work in this country, and the reason our pruning does not leave trees looking butchered.
Copies of our full Health and Safety Policy and insurance provision are available on request, by email.

What happens to the wood
We recycle around 90% of the products of our work.
Chippings go to allotment holders, riding stables and outdoor play schemes. The remainder goes to carbon-neutral electricity generation. We supply large-scale residential wood burners, and we sell seasoned logwood.
Being members of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is part of the same thinking — the trees we work on are habitat as well as timber, and we work accordingly.

What customers say
“Just like to say how pleased we were with the service you provided. Courteous and professional and extremely tidy, I came home to find trees gone and no real trace of activity”
“We are so pleased with what you have done. The standard of work is really high and you left everything very tidy afterwards. Delighted and would have no hesitation recommending you to others”
“The team work so hard and keep the work area tidy as they go along; a very pleasant workforce indeed”
